Framed Kiwi Print

from $250.00

Kiwi Pukupuku (Little Spotted Kiwi) are the smallest of Aotearoa’s five kiwi species. Once widespread across the country, their numbers plummeted due to habitat loss and predation, leaving them extinct on the mainland of the North Island by the early 1900s. Kapiti Island became a crucial refuge for Kiwi Pukupuku after a successful early translocation. Today over 1,200 kiwi call Kapiti home.

This image was captured at Rangatira, of a local Kiwi meandering through the flats. I heard it’s slow plodding and snuck ahead to where I thought it might cross the path. Sure enough out popped that long beak, and the rest of the bird followed. It paused just long enough to get a shot, with a faint red light and slow shutter speed (and no flash!).

Your image will be printed on gallery-quality Enhanced Matte paper using 12 colour archival pigment inks on the latest Epson printers, framed in a sustainably sourced, solid wood frame handmade in New Zealand.
